Soil Mosquito

The adult is a nuisance; the larva feeds on fine roots of seedlings. The cause is overwatering.

1 min read

If a cloud of black mosquitoes emerges from the pot when watering, the soil has been too wet for too long. In seedling trays, the larvae are serious.

Identification

Weak adults running across the soil. White larvae with black heads in the first wet centimeter.

Control

Allow the surface to dry, use perlite or clay pebbles as mulch, water less frequently. Silica gel does not kill pot larvae: change your watering habits.

What we recommend at Control Garden

Perlite for surface and drainage. Insecticide without drying the coconut is just a patch.
