Drainage in Pots
Without water drainage, even the most expensive substrate turns into a swamp with yellow leaves.
Draining is not just about "putting stones for aesthetics". It means that excess water should exit within minutes and air should return to the substrate's pores.
Components
Sufficient holes, a layer of expanded clay if there is a saucer, a mix with perlite, and emptying the saucer. A single micro-hole blocked by a root leads to slow flooding.
Signs of Failure
Smells like rotten eggs, mosquitoes, soft leaves, moss on the surface. Watering less is not enough if there is no drainage: drill holes or change pots.
