Urban Garden

An urban garden works if you get the container, substrate, and species right. Sunlight (5–6 h) is not improvised; the rest is: deep pot, drainage, and a support for everything that climbs or bears fruit.

Container and Substrate

Use pots with holes and a layer of expanded clay at the bottom. Mix soil with coconut fiber and perlite to prevent compaction in summer. In long planters, a weed barrier under the substrate reduces weeds.

Supports and Crops

Cherry tomatoes, peppers, and pole beans need supports. Start with the support guide and the sheet for tomatoes.

Watering

On a terrace, the wind dries quickly: water at the base, early, and do not leave the saucer always full. A well-supported urban garden produces more in less space.
