Rose Aphid

The classic of April in the buds. Same family as the tomato, same protocol.

The rose aphid concentrates on the bud. If you let the ants take care of it, the May bouquet arrives sticky and deformed.

Identification

Green clusters on new stems and buds. Honeydew on the underside of leaves.

Soap at sunset, gentle spray if the plant is strong, ant gel at the base. Trim impossible shoots.

Agricultural soap and, if there are ant trails on the stem, gel traps around the perimeter.

Are ladybugs enough?

They help. In a saturated shoot, an initial soap treatment reduces density.

All year round?

Peaks in spring and mild autumn. Very hot summers sometimes reduce them naturally.

Soft insects on shoots and undersides. Honeydew, ants, and viruses. Act at the first curl.

Act at the bud, not when the stem is a green sheath.

Potassium soap works by contact. Wet the underside well and avoid burning in full sun.
