How to Install Weed Barrier Fabric?
How to install weed barrier fabric: prepare the soil, overlap, secure, and cut planting holes.
The weed barrier fabric saves weeding time if installed correctly. If not tensioned properly, weeds can emerge from the folds.
Prepare the Soil
Remove roots and stones, level the area, and lightly water. If you are setting up an urban garden in a planter, the fabric goes over the drainage and under the substrate only if you want to separate layers; in soil, it is visible.
Installation
- Unroll it following the slope or the planting lines.
- Overlap 10–15 cm between sheets.
- Secure with staples or stones every 40–60 cm and at the edges.
- Cut crosses where each plant will go and run the drip line underneath or through a side strip.
With Supports

Does the mesh go on top or below the ground?
On top of the leveled soil, stretched. You can put gravel, bark, or nothing on top. Do not bury it: it would stop cutting the light.
What weight should I use?
105 g/m² is a sturdy standard for vegetable gardens and gardens. Very low weights break when stepped on or trimmed.
Can I plant tomatoes on the mesh?
Yes: cut a cross, plant, and place the stake through the cut next to the root ball, not a meter away.
