FAQ
Can perlite be reused?
Yes, if the plant was healthy. Sift, rinse, and mix with a bit of new.
Perlite does not “wear out” like fertilizer. It gets dirty and breaks down. Sifting makes it usable again.
Method
Dry the root ball, crumble it, sift. Rinse off dust. If there was fusarium, nematodes, or a chronic swamp smell, do not recycle in seedling trays.
What we recommend at Control Garden
A new pack provides 20-30% fresh. The rest, reused, saves and continues to aerate.

Boil it?
Unnecessary for healthy use. A home oven is uneven and dusty.
With old coco?
Sift together or separate. Coco decomposes more.
Does it float when washing?
Yes. Use a strainer, not the drain.
Is vermiculite the same?
It crushes more. Reuse fewer cycles.
What about arlite?
Washes very well. Ideal for reuse.
Seedling tray with used perlite?
Better new or very clean. The cell does not forgive fungi.
